Color Schemes

This photo demonstrates a complementary color scheme. White hands with the black background, these colors are opposites on the color wheel making it appealing to eye even though they are opposites.

This is an example of an analogous color scheme. It has multiple hues of colors that are along the color scheme.  The different tones of green and the yellow-green shades.

My final example is of an monochromatic color scheme. It has one base color which is primary in the photo.

  1. Very nice! I like your monochromatic scheme. Is that a fire hydrant?

  2. I like Red in the last picture! It showed couples shades of red and still can see the details even if it is all red.

  3. The best example is the red fire hydrant for monochromatic, but the first photo doesn't really have white hands...the hands are more of a beige, tan color...but I get what you were trying to portray.

  4. The red bolt is award-winning! The bolt is rule-of-thirds position in the photo and the circles, textures and diagonal chain add a lot of dynamic movement to the composition. As for the hands, which I also like a lot, black and white are both neutrals, thus don't really work with color schemes unless it's a neutral one, but the photo is gorgeous. The hands are actually tan not white, the stones gray, but no matter. I love that the hands are off center, the chipped red polish, the black stones in the background, very good contrast.

  5. I have to agree, the photo of the hydrant is top notch, I love the little orange hues coming from the chips in the paint, almost like sores on the cast iron, or its trying to heal the damage.

  7. I love the photo of the red bolt and chain. It's very simple but simplicity is key in photography because your focus is drawn to one thing and not all over the place. The composition is great, having the bolt off to the side and not in the center adds interest.

  8. That red monochromatic scheme is a great idea for a shot. I like how it wasn't really different shades of red, but it worked because of all of the different levels of depth and shape to each piece. nice work!

  9. I really like the fire hydrant. Interesting approach. One might think it's not a monochrome image but the shadows naturally create different shades of red making it monochrome. Way to think out of the box!
