Portrait shots

For this one I tried different perepectives and an object that he could look at instead of at me taking his picture.

With this one I tried different angles and framed the shot using the subject. I also gave him "looking room" within the shot. Though in the readig it said that breakign the rule sometimes makes for an intersting shot.

I was trying with adding multiple subjects.

I tried different angles, lighting and poses. I had not tried over the shoulder. I was framing with the stair railing.

Week 10 Paint

I love this tool. I had so much fun with it. You can go from minor adjustments, creating highlights to full color change. The textures, values and depth can be manipulated to create the feeling or message wanted.

For this one I used the bucket tool to fill in color to selected spaces. Then I used the paint brush to add pink highlights to Makayla's hair.  The banks I feathered, fade out selection.

I used the bucket tool to add color to the sky. Then used the paint brush to create birds and add white caps to the water.  I also used an airbrush to add violet and different shades of blue to the water.

Week 10 Text

For this picture I added names and the date. It was easier than I anticipated.  It did take me a little while to work to the process of moving the text and resizing.  I am sure there is  lot more I could do such as inverting the text.  It will be interesting to continue to work with.

Again on this picture I added the title and date.

Week 10 Cloning

This was a lot of fun. I can see using this a lot more to enhance my pictures!  The first one of the flower is the original. I added additional flowers and removed the partial pink one in the lower right corner.

The first one below is the original. I removed the grass from the frog and from around the cardinal. I also cloned the statues/gnomes that you could only see part of in the back of the photo.

The orginal

I chose the canvas filter for this one.

I loved trying the different filters and one was the illusion.

This was the cartoon filter.

The orginal

The ripple filter. I tried so many differetn ones, this one jst seemed to fit the mood and subject.

Week 8 Light and Color

This is a picture of my daughters basketball team after they won the State Championships.  I used the select tool and decreased the hue behind the team and increased the light on the team itself.

This is a picture at the VSO concert. I especially liked the cloud formation. I wish I had understood the rule of thirds at the time but still like formation.

I inverted the color on this one. I am not sure I like the outcome though it was a dramatic change and really highlighted the cloud swirl.

Using the same photo I changed the color.  It really defines the cloud formation that drew me to taking the photo.

Week 7 Crop/ Move/Select

This was both an interesting, fun  and frustrating process. I enjoyed working with the program but found that in my inexperience I didn't always end up with the result I had intended.  There is so much that can be done, I am not sure where to start!  Such potential!

Week 6 Landscapes

I was trying to capture the contrasting colors and tone.
With this landscape I was working on framing while trying to catch the light tones in the water.
These sail boats are tucked away in a cove. I wanted to capture the essences of how they were enclosed by natural boarders.  I saw this and it was like a moment where I saw what I wanted to share and how to frame it before I even had my camera out.
I had seen pictures similar to this, and I just had to try it.  It was interesting and I was working on creating depth while catching the shadows.
I was trying to capture the color of the setting sun while creating the silhouette.
Just because, my intention was for my own enjoyment. I love the docks and thus one will be removed soon as the season ends.
I was trying to capture the swirl of the clouds as the sun was trying to break through at dusk. It was so angry in the clouds, the peace of the water and the crowd of people flowed.

This was taken in New York City as we were going over to Ellis Island. My intention was just to capture the skyline with the contrast between the blue sky and dark, cold water.

Framing

Week 5- Composition & aesthetics

My daughter went on a photo shot this week for her senior portraits and I found it interesting watching and talking to the photographer about the composition and overall aesthetics of the photos.  He spent some time talking with her about the things she liked to do, what she thought would look good and how she wanted to be portrayed. He took shots both observing the rule of thirds as well as those centered.  I asked him how he would define aesthetics and he paused and said he had not thought about it as anyone thing.  It was defined as what is naturally pleasing to the eye of the viewer.  I asked how he knew and said he just knows, he feels it, what works in what he sees and what he wants to convey in a manor that an audience can understand. Part of that is understanding his subject and the intented viewer. The hardest part is to see beyond what your eye and your mind think it sees.  To stop thinking about what you think is there to accepting what is, once the shutter closes and the image and energy  is captured.

Color Schemes

This photo demonstrates a complementary color scheme. White hands with the black background, these colors are opposites on the color wheel making it appealing to eye even though they are opposites.

This is an example of an analogous color scheme. It has multiple hues of colors that are along the color scheme.  The different tones of green and the yellow-green shades.

My final example is of an monochromatic color scheme. It has one base color which is primary in the photo.

Week 2

I choose this angle despite bring slightly blurred but the close up really shows the texture of the petals. I also liked how the perfectly round outer shape is flawed by the one petal being bent towards the camera. I am working on clearer close up shots and how to better utilize the settings on my cameras to do so.
This was one of my favorite shots. I really liked the emotion, tone and feeling depicted in this photo.  The upwards shot gives a small flower a larger appearance and stance then those around it. This flower is actually smaller and it is almost lost within in the garden but this point of view changes all that.  The darker tone makes it seem cold and bleak in a way as it struggles to thrive and claim its place.
